Frequently Asked Questions
What is the #CROWNED conference?
Girls to Queens is hosting its first and one-of-a-kind residential summer conference at UNC- Chapel Hill July 11-July 14. Students will be immersed in a full-blown college experience as the conference will allow participants to network with other middle school girls, work on teams and live on campus. Participants will also get a deep dive into several careers as mentioned on the conference agenda.
Who can participate in the conference?
The conference is geared towards rising 7th, 8th & 9th grade girls in Orange, Durham, Alamance and surrounding counties. Our conference wants to empower all girls who may or may not have access to college and career resources.
What’s included in the cost of the conference?
The conference includes lodging, transportation, activities and all meals for the entire weekend (with the exception of spending money at Frankie’s). In addition, your daughter will receive a conference t-shirt, participate in engaging workshops as well as have the opportunity to win some really cool prizes!
Where will my daughter stay on campus?
All girls will stay at North Carolina Central University Chidley North residence halls, a secured college dorm on campus that only allows access by student ID. All girls will be provided with a student ID upon arrival of the conference.
Will my daughter have a roommate?
To ensure that your daughter receives a real college dorm experience, she will be assigned a roommate. Each room is equipped with two beds, a bathroom and mini-fridge.
Is there a curfew during the conference?
Yes, there is a 11:00pm curfew every night! We have action-packed days that are filled with adventures and early mornings!
What is the staff to student ratio during the conference?
We believe in building relationships with our girls and thus our all-female staff will each be assigned four girls. The staff will reside in the dorm also.
What if someone else other than me needs to pick up my child from the conference?
At pickup time, please have your ID ready to pick up your child. We will only release your child to who you listed on the application, guardian or emergency contact. If you decide to send someone else to pick up your child, please notify us so we can make the proper arrangements.
Does my child need money for meals during the conference?
No, all meals are included in the cost of the conference. YAY!
